Dance Leaders

The Active Schools Dance Academy has been developed  to target teenagers with an interest in dance, which is rolled out to all South Ayrshire schools.

Every year each secondary school is offered the opportunity for pupils in S3/4 to take part in a full day dance workshop within their school during curricular time.

If you are interested in taking part in this programme please contact Amiee Alexander on 07970 871808 or amiee.alexander3@south-ayrshire.gov.uk, or your own Active Schools Coordinator for more information.

Dance Leaders Award

Following the workshop, pupils are then selected for a place on the SCQF Level 5 Award in Dance Leadership. This 5 day intensive training took place during August 2018 and the pupils attending developed the skills to plan and lead dance sessions, learn dance games and choreographic skills. 19 pupils from South Ayrshire schools took part in this course and all achieved the Level 5 Award in Dance Leadership.

Following on from this those pupils achieving the Level 5 Award have been supported by Active Schools to deliver dance sessions within their own secondary and cluster primary. The success of this programme has resulted in a massive increase in dance schools which allows school the opportunity to offer dance as extra-curricular activity.

Many of our Dance Leaders supported South Ayrshire schools to take part in the South Ayrshire Dance competition each year.
