Additional Support Needs Schools
There are two ASN schools within South Ayrshire; Invergarven and Southcraig Campus.
Festival of Sport
Through the Festival of Sport, Ayrshire Sportsability gives young people the opportunity to take part in a range of sporting activities led by qualified and experienced coaches. The activities are organised on an Ayrshire-wide basis in partnership between the NHS, 3 local councils, local and national disability sports organisations and the national sports body for Scotland.
Each year, ASA hold the ‘Come & Try’ event for children and young people from both mainstream and special needs schools. The three day event is split between primary and secondary schools and offers a variety of sports, including some activities the children have never tried before. Over 200 primary and secondary pupils took part in the first Ayrshire Special Games in 2003. This has grown to nearly 600 children participating over three days.
Active Schools work to create opportunities for all pupils with additional support needs whether attending an ASN school, or a mainstream school.
Active Schools work in partnership with Ayrshire Sportsability to promote the education and welfare of children with physical, sensory and learning disability through sport. The partnership aims to support children and young people with additional support needs to:
- Meet other young people
- Take part in new and exciting sports
- Participate in sport regularly
- Develop further and take part in competitive sport in partnership with Scottish Disability Sport
