This year Active Schools is working with some select pupils within Invergarven to develop their coaching skills, as well as their leadership skills. This will enable the pupils to help deliver a range of sports and activities to the other pupils within the school. This programme will encourage social inclusion, and develop responsibility and employability skills.
During the year the school will be working with Active Schools to try and develop a sustainable community sports club after school.
This will give the pupils the opportunity to try lots of different activities but will hopefully encourage more opportunities for social inclusion outwith the school day. Active Schools will be working with Invergarven, Girvan Academy’s Sports Academy and hopefully Ayrshire Sportsability to ensure the club is a success.
Links with Girvan Academy
With support from Girvan Academy the pupils from Invergarven are able to come along to the academy to get the use of the facilities and equipment, as well as receive high quality delivery from PE staff and Girvan’s Sports Academy.
The sessions also mean the pupils can try a wide range of different sports which they would not normally have access to.
During the year Invergarven will be aiming to attend as many events and competitions as possible to try and give the pupils an opportunity to experience a wide range of different sports in a more competitive environment.
The school will be linking with the Competitive School Sport Officer Jill Tomlinson and using the ASN Competition/Events Calendar to ensure the pupils can enjoy as much sport as possible within the year.
