Ayr Academy is a non-denominational secondary school situated in the centre of Ayr. Ayr Academy’s catchment area covers Newton-on-Ayr, Whitletts and the outlying villages of Coylton, Annbank, and Mossblown.
Aimee Pollock & Melissa Sloan are part of the Active Schools Coaching Academy having been selected through an interview process.
As part of the Coaching Academy there are a number of core courses which include: Multi-Skills, Child Protection, First Aid and Disability Awareness.
The Coaching Academy will also complete additional courses in their chosen sports. In turn, they will be given the opportunity to assist in the delivery of sports coaching within the primary & secondary schools, as well as within a community setting.
Ayr Academy has four new Dance Leaders this year: Abby McMillan, Shelly Gribions, Hayleigh Porter & Rhianna Given.
The girls recently achieved their SCQF Level 5 in Dance Leadership. This girls are now leading after school dance sessions at the cluster primary schools, preparing them for the Competitive School Sport Dance Competition.
Ayr Academy Young Ambassadors work to promote sport within the school. The Young Ambassadors are:

Their key role as a Young Ambassador is to motivate and inspire other young people to participate in sport, promote sport within the school to and continue with the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 Legacy. This will be achieved by:
- Raising awareness of opportunities to furthermore participate in physical activity in schools, clubs and community sports hub
- Promoting an active lifestyle in sport in schools, clubs and community sports hub
- Raising awareness and using the excitement of all major sporting events
Sport & Recreation
As part of the curriculum the PE department run the SCQF Higher and National 5 Sport & Recreation Award.
The senior pupils are currently learning to assist with activity sessions, creating fitness programmes and daily centre duties within the school, primary schools and leisure community setting. Active Schools work with PE in the organising employment opportunities in the sport and recreation industry by offering the leaders opportunities to develop their career in sport.
