There are a range of lunchtime and after school clubs available at Carrick Academy which are delivered by PE staff, Carrick rugby and Active Schools. These include; basketball, dance, fitness, football, golf, gymnastics, netball, rugby, and volleyball.
During November and December a group of pupils were given the opportunity to take part in an after school golf club at Turnberry making the most of some great links with the local community, thank you to Bryan Jamieson for supporting this programme.
Carrick Academy enter a range of Competitive School Sport events throughout the year – already this year they have competed in netball, rugby, cross country, dance and many more!
Cameron McKie and Poppy Kruse (S4) have been selected as this year’s Young Ambassadors for Queen Margaret Academy. Poppy & Cameron attended the Young Ambassador Conference on 12th September at Hampden Park where they were inspired by a selection of Scottish athletes such as such as Sarah Law (Scotland rugby international) and Kieron Achara (Team GB basketball captain) as well as two bronze medallists from Gold Coast 2018, diver James Heatly and triathlete Marc Austin.
The key role as a Young Ambassador is to motivate and inspire other young people to participate in sport, promote sport within the school to and continue with the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 Legacy.
Cameron Haggo, Paul Thomson & Holly Hamilton (S5) have been selected to be part of the Active Schools Coaching Academy Programme for 2018-19.
As part of this leadership programme the S5 pupils will attend a number of different courses throughout the year and are being supported to deliver activities within the local primary schools and community sessions.
The pupils will take part in sport specific courses in addition to the compulsory courses of First Aid, Safeguarding and Protecting Children, Disability Awareness Training, and Multiskills training.
