Straiton Primary School

Straiton PS has a school roll of 13 pupils this year and is situated in Straiton just outside of Maybole. The Head Teacher is Liz Candlish.

Last year 100% of pupils took part in an Active Schools activity with Multisport and football being the most popular activities.

School Sport

Last year the School achieved a Bronze award in the School Sport Award and we are aiming to achieve silver this year. Last term there was 3 clubs on offer to the children at Straiton PS and there will be 4 on offer this term.

Last year the School entered a variety of Competitive Schools Sports events as well as pupils participating in the Carrick Cluster Events. The staff at Straiton are fantastic and offer the pupils a wide range of Sport!!

Cluster Competitions

To support the cluster PE plan, Active Schools, in partnership with Competitive School Sport, will be offering the following cluster competitions:


13th September – 3.30-5pm @ Carrick Academy


21st February – 3.30-5pm @ Carrick Academy


21st March – 3.30–5pm @ Carrick Academy


3rd March 10am -2pm @ The Quay Zone, Girvan


13th June – 3.30-5pm @ Carrick Academy

There are also South Ayrshire competitions which the School will be encouraged to enter.


The school aims to create strong links with local sports clubs to develop pathways for pupils to attend their sessions. They are very lucky to have many club coaches come into the school to work with the children and staff. The school has developed strong links with local clubs such as Carrick Rugby Club who deliver curricular and extra-curricular sessions. Ayr Storm Basketball and Straiton Badminton Club will also be offering sessions to the School and encourage pupils to join their club.
