Harry Murray and Ewan McLuckie will be working to develop their coaching ability throughout the year with support from Caitlin Anderson the Active Schools Co-ordinator for Marr College. They will also have the opportunity to undertake different courses as part of the programme, including sport specific courses in addition to compulsory courses; First Aid, Safeguarding and Protecting Children, Disability Awareness Training, Positive Coaching Scotland and Public Speaking.
The pupils will then deliver activities within the Troon Primaries and help support extracurricular clubs within Marr College.
Last year’s Coaching Academy pupil Eilidh McDonald was the 2017/18 Active Schools Coaching Academy Pupil of the Year- this was a fantastic achievement and well deserved by Eilidh.
We have 6 Dance Leaders from Marr who are continuing to deliver amazing dance sessions!
The Leaders have delivered within Troon, Struthers, Muirhead and Barassie Primary’s this year. They have all already proven their amazing ability to plan and coach, and will hopefully go on to support/deliver a dance club within Marr College during the 2018/2019 school year.
Kathryn Muir and Calum Martin were selected to attend this year’s Young Ambassador Conference at Hampden Park on 12th September. The Young Ambassador programme is a programme designed to support young people to promote sport in the local community.
They will attend different workshops in partnership with sportscotland and Active Schools to enable the Young Ambassadors to reach their full potential and encourage them to promote sports clubs, community clubs and Competitive School Sport within Troon and South Ayrshire.
This year we have 28 Sports Leaders, who will be working on leadership skills and developing their coaching skills throughout the programme.
As part of their Sports Leaders’ course they must volunteer for at least 10 hours delivering any sport they choose, or work within a community group.
The Sports Leaders will be undertaking different coaching courses from August until October 2018 and will the go on to work with local Primary School pupils. The Sports Leaders will also be helping to support the Competitive School Sport Officer Jill Tomlinson.
