Monkton Primary School

Gold School Award

The School has been awarded a Gold SportScotland School Sport Award this year, recognition of the excellent sporting opportunities and PE provision on offer for children. A great achievement for the school and they proudly have their plaque on display at the front door.

Volunteering

Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Goldie take the P6&7 school netball team on a Wednesday lunchtime. They are preparing the pupils to take part in the netball league and hoping to retain the South Ayrshire Netball trophy.

Mr Dawson delivers the lunchtime football for girls and boys. She has been taking the girls team to festivals and the boys have been playing games against other schools.

Mrs Caird has been taking a lunchtime club to prepare the pupils for the South Ayrshire Dance competition. They finished in 3rd place – well done.

Mrs Caird will also be preparing a group to take part in the South Ayrshire gymnastics competition at the end of January 2019.

Pathways

Monkton has good links with Prestwick Tennis Centre who deliver taster sessions for P2 pupils, and provide a variety of opportunities to take part at the Tennis Centre.

P6 pupils attend indoor bowling sessions at Ambassador Bowling club in Prestwick. Each class gets 2 taster sessions where the pupils get the opportunity to try bowls.

Leadership

The P7 class have taken part in the Junior Coaching Academy training programme, which is aimed at giving the pupils leadership skills in sport. Some of the pupils have already been involved in helping out at clubs with more to follow later in the year.
