Parental Volunteers

Are you a parent and looking to volunteer in a school near you?

Active Schools can provide opportunities for you to lead sport or physical activity sessions in a local school.

Last year 26 parents became involved in delivering activities within Active Schools in South Ayrshire and we would love to support more parents to get involved!

Whether you are looking to provide more opportunities at your child’s school or whether you have a keen interest in sport, Active Schools will provide you with a fantastic experience to meet your desired goals.

As a parent you are vital to supporting your child to make positive lifestyle choices, Active Schools gives you an opportunity to become actively involved in their participation in sport and physical activity.

Don’t have any experience?

South Ayrshire Active Schools provide all volunteers with free coach education and training to provide you with the necessary skills to assist in getting our children physically active.

Parent Volunteer of the Term December 2018

The winner of our parent volunteer for term 1 is John McLean who gives up his time to help deliver football sessions for boys at Braehead PS.

John offered to help coach at the afterschool football after becoming aware of Braehead Primary starting their own boys and girls football teams last year and knew that he had the skills and experience of football to help at training. So far he has coached 16 hours of afterschool football, leading the boy’s team in two primary school league matches and at one SSFA Junior Soccer 7s competition. If you attend any of his sessions or matches you will immediately get a sense of his approachable and positive personality and ethos of creating an encouraging atmosphere for the pupils to play and learn.

John recognises that it’s not easy for pupils living in the area to make the transition from school football to local club football. To combat this, he transports pupils from Braehead and St Johns along with his son to Whitletts Victoria and Cambusdoon football clubs each week. He has already grown relationships with coaches, parents and pupils in the area and now making strong connections with the school, making himself a strong asset to the community. Despite a busy work and family life, John has expressed his desire to commit to coaching with Braehead for the rest of the school year, which is fantastic news for the school!
